History of Hunting

Some reviews about hunting in Spain

The Iberian Peninsula, always sparsely populated by men and with an exceptional climate, has been since the Paleolithic a gigantic paradise for hunting.

It is in the Middle Ages that extensive books about this noble art begin to be published. D. Juan Manuel writes about falconry in 1325 and the king Alfonso XI collects in his "Libro de Montería" a meticulous description of the richness of the fields of Spain. With special emphasis, he describes the hunting grounds in Andalusia.

Spanish painting, over the centuries, also includes a wide variety of hunting scenes, a magnificent example is Goya.

Andalusia has maintained its hunting wealth to this day and is the only area in Europe where you can find two varieties of mountain Ibex, deer, wild boar and purebred fallow-deer, mouflon, roe deer and an endless variety of small game.
